Bio - Chris Hydman
by Mikal Saint George
Design master Chris Hydman has not only an eye for design
but a sixth sense for discovering a home’s energetic strength and
transforming it into a true sanctuary for the clients who live
there. Constantly guided by the principles of Feng Shui, Chris
is able to bring a modern interpretation to this ancient art
form dedicated to harmony and balance through placement and
design ensuring a décor that is aesthetically pleasing
and spiritually rejuvenating.
A native of Newfoundland, Chris was influenced early on by
his mother’s sense of style and love of her home – a
constant work in progress! As an only child he often was involved
in his mother’s design projects. Even at a young age,
he understood that color was often the lifeblood of a room,
bringing a vital energy to everyone who entered. If furniture
was placed in a “jammed” or cluttered pattern,
some how that was how everyone would feel in that room.
Chris officially brought his innate design ideals into the
professional arena more than 15 years ago when he teamed up
with Steven Sabados to form The Sabados Group Inc., specializing
in event planning, product launches and set design. Together,
the duo shared responsibility in the creative planning, project
management and public relations for events including the launch
of Toronto's Eye Magazine, and set design for City
TV's Fashion Television, Movie Television,
and Much Music.
As the company profile and client roster grew, Chris shifted
his focus toward decorating for a rapidly growing residential
client list. Eager to break away from traditional décor
principles and styles, Chris’ unique alchemy of interior
design, art appreciation and spirituality spoke directly to
the firm’s private clients. The result was a singular
style blending Chris’ charisma and aesthetic bravura
with an unswerving focus on the personal spirit of each homeowner.
“Positive energy is really the most important building
material in any home,” stresses Chris. “I encourage
my clients to recognize their personal power as a tangible
design element while building an emotional connection to each
room in their home!” An avid aromatherapy connoisseur,
Chris believes in engaging all of the senses in décor
and is able to pair a scent with each room to match the energy
a client hopes to bring about.
Chris thanks partner Steven for always encouraging his non-traditional
approach to design and enjoys household name status in Canada
with an eye on the worldwide market. Together the team has co-hosted
Discovery Homes’ hit series Designer Guys airing
in the US, on HGTV in Canada and more than 30 countries around
the globe. Their latest design series Design Rivals is
currently airing on the same networks and will continue through
2006 with new episodes.
