Bio - Genevieve Gorder
by Mikal Saint George
To Genevieve Gorder life is a work of art and the home is
the single most important canvas! While many designers rely
on the traditional rules and regulations specified by generations
of “interior etiquette,” this free-spirited Minneapolis
native prefers to kick off her shoes (literally) and jump in
to the fun of home design.
The break-out star of TLC’s nationwide phenomenon Trading
Places, Genevieve’s bold use of color and fun loving
approach to interior design is helping to re-invent America’s
views about the home. “I believe lives can become transformed
through the joy of design’” quotes the design guru.
Be it a broken dish, a delicious vegetable or a childhood memory,
Genevieve exuberantly translates them into living spaces that
that perfectly reflect the homeowners wants, needs and dreams.
A true artist – boasting a BFA in graphic design from
Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts – Gorder often
enjoys playing psychologist/detective in order to get to know
the real personality of her clients. She strives to embody
the heart and soul of the client in her design for the home.
It is their sense of joy about favorite things and cherished
memories that give this maverick designer her ultimate inspiration. “Every
client is full of color so I make sure to help them create
a space that reflects that – my goal is to keep the world
from becoming beigeland!”
Beginning with an MTV internship, Gorder has traveled the
world to build her design expertise. Amsterdam, Barcelona and
New York’s award-winning Duffy Design have all served
as learning grounds for her signature eclectic style. Her multi
faceted design experience ranging from corporate packaging
to fashion has taught her to be experimental and have enabled
her to make even novice decorating clients feel inspired and
part of the process.
A true entrepreneur who refuses to limit herself to just interiors,
Genevieve’s New York City based company GG Studios is
busily re-shaping the look of kitchen appliances, blue jeans,
greeting cards and even Tanguerey bottles! Her current sponsors
include Proctor and Gamble’s Swiffer line and 3M’s
painters tape. While upcoming projects await the “final
reveal” the world can expect to forever changed by this
one-of-a-kind visionary designer.
