Bio - Sue Flemming
by Mikal Saint George
When fitness expert Sue Flemming first told her parents
she wanted to write a book call Buff Brides her mother’s
first reaction was “why would you wan to write a book
about naked brides?” What the elder Flemmings – both
salt of the earth farmers from the American heartland – didn’t
realize was that they were not that far off the mark!
Sue, a naturally competitive athlete, instinctively knew the
better the bride looked and felt out of her clothes, the more
magical she would look (and feel!) while donning the breath-taking
couture creation of her fantasy wedding. And so was born the
Buff Fitness regimen. Far more than another cleverly packaged
brand, Flemming has brought a sense of steadfast teamwork to
a results oriented regimen that has grown into a global health
and fitness empire. The franchise now encompasses the run away
best selling books and accompanying DVDs, Buff Moms, Buff Moms
-to-Be and the internationally recognized Fashionably Buff
which all culminated in Discovery Health Networks hit reality
TV series Buff Brides.
Sue asserts that whether you have six days or six months you
can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel. The
real challenge however is to maintain it for 60 years. That’s
where Flemming takes over. Dedicated to working with clients
to overcome their fears of fitness and body image, Sue develops
the most important muscle of all…self-esteem. THE BODY
IS A FEFLECTION OF THE STATE OF MIND.
A native of New York’s Long Island, Flemming found her
calling early on as she yearned for the camaraderie of team
sports first at Riverhead High School and later while attending
Canisius College in Buffalo, NY where she earned a B.S and
M.S in physical education. This proved to be particularly challenging
in an era when women in sports were still a relative rarity. “I
was so grateful for women like Billy Jean King and Chris Evert-
they proved that women could be strong and athletic…and
win!” recalls Flemming
A world traveler who has waded in the deep azure waters of
Sri Lanka and is now planning an expedition to the Andes, her
participation in eight New York City marathons have given her
the kind of strength and stamina a world explorer requires.
She credits fellow fitness icons such as Billy Blanks for never
allowing her to forget the passion that has brought her to
this stage of her life.
Rather than resting on her well toned laurels, Sue sees endless
possibilities in bringing her message of fitness and to the
world. As technology becomes more advanced it is only natural
that a sedentary complacence creeps its way into our everyday
life. That’s why we have to understand that a fitness
regime is not a quick fix but a long term way of life
A popular fixture in mass media touchstones such as USA Today,
Cosmopolitan and InStyle Weddings not to mention a sought after
guest on ABC TV’s Good Morning America, Sue Flemming
currently lives in New York City - where she almost never takes
a taxi!
